In 1999 we founded Sportlink and began offering the Sportlink Physical, a high quality, low cost cardiovascular-focused physical for students and athletes. In a widely unstandardized industry, we brought standardization and addressed the issue of sudden cardiac death.
In addition to providing the nationally recommended physical, we made the decision to include a cardiac ultrasound screen with the Sportlink Physical. It is a non-invasive test that takes less than 60 seconds. We call it the "Snapshot Echo" because it is similar to taking a quick picture of the heart. The purpose of the Snapshot Echo, which includes two views and two measurements of the the heart walls and chambers, is to quickly identify any high visible structural abnormalities of the heart.
Since our inception we have screened over 20,000 athletes, 4 of which have received heart surgeries as a result of the Sportlink Physical.
The Sportlink Physical is better than a typical doctors visit, but there is room to make it better. We estimate the sensitivity for detecting sudden cardiac death conditions with the Sportlink Physical to be 50%. That leaves half of the possible conditions undetected.
To address the remaining conditions, we teamed up with the most trusted cardiologists in the country and designed the Cardiac Life Screen, which is over 90% accurate in detecting any potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions.
The Cardiac Life Screen is the first packaged cardiac service of its kind. Its a synergy of medical advancements in technology, the expertise of world-class cardiologists, and the availability and convenience of Sportlink.
It has always been our goal to provide high-quality heart screenings to the masses. We are making bold steps in that direction and are committed to seeking out the best ways through relationships and technology to reach our goal.
